Outreach Programs
Learning soars to new heights through our outreach programs! Each program strives to teach students about the history of transportation through fun activities and interactive lessons right in your classroom! Programs incorporate various subject areas, including Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. We currently offer four programs that target 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades and lasts about an hour; our Civil War program is designed for 4th and 5th grades only. Programs can also be scheduled here at the museum for your class, Scout troop, or home-school group (limit 15 children). All school outreach programs are absolutely free in order to bring this fun learning experience into your classroom.
The current offerings include:
Brother Against Brother- Watch the Civil War come alive for your students as we commemorate the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War! Students will become Civil War scholars as they study maps of battles, learn to transmit Morse Code, and evaluate primary source material. This program is for 4th and 5th grades only.
A Pilot's Life For Me!- Students will take to the skies as we learn about the fascinating early years of aviation. Students will make their own airfoil, practice speaking in code, and more! Roger that!
Westward Ho!- The year is 1845 and thousands of American settlers are moving West. Through this program, students will learn the hardships and rewards of life on a wagon train, make maps of pioneer trails, and examine and analyze Primary sources.
Rollin’ on the River- From canoes to steamboats, rivers have never ceased to be vital natural highways. Students will learn about life working on a steamboat, analyze river pollution, and practice mapping America's rivers.
Field Trips
There is nothing more enjoyable for students than a field trip, so bring them out to Vintage Wings and Wheels Museum! Designed for schools, home-school groups, Scout troops, youth groups, and more. Available from May through September; lasts about four hours, including a break for lunch (not provided). Prices are $5 per child, with chaperones admitted free. Shorter field trips can be scheduled as well. We ask that you schedule a field trip at least 3 weeks prior to the field trip day.
We have a lot to offer when it comes to learning. We are a museum devoted to educating the public about all forms of transportation. From automobiles and airplanes, to bicycles and boats, our museum covers the history and use of transportation in our society. Along with this, we offer a number of interactive activities and learning experiences that range from making kites and airplanes, to examining a real airplane and learning about how the museum is run. We can cater any field trip to the size and learning needs of your specific group and are more than willing to work with any age group. Please contact the museum if you are interested.
